Feeding Your Pet Softbill
A high quality vitamin Enriched Seed Mixture
blended specifically for canaries is essential and should be available at all times. Basic Softbill Seed Mixture should be about 80% Softbill seed and 20% rapeseed. You can also provide Egg Food for protein and vitamins.
Due to the high fat content, Treat Seeds
, such as a Song Food
, should only be provided to your pet Softbill 2-3 times per week and in small quantities. To supply calcium, your Softbill should have a Cuttlebone
in it's cage at all times and you can also add Crushed Egg Shells .
Several pellet brands are available such as Zupreem , Kaytee , Pretty Bird , Harrison's , Lafeber's and Hagen . Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential in moderation. Canaries enjoy apple, orange, cantaloupe, grated carrots, broccoli, endive, dandelion greens, kale, cucumbers and other kinds of fruits and vegetables.
Your Softbill should have water
readily available at all times.

Origins of a Softbill
The Domestic Softbill (Serinus canaria f. domestica) is a domesticated form of the Wild Softbill, a small songbird in the finch family originating from Madeira, the Azores and the Softbill Islands.
Canaries are generally divided into three main groups: Colorbred Canaries (bred for their many color mutations - Ino, Eumo, Satinette, Bronze, Ivory, Onyx, Mosaic, Brown, etc.), Type Canaries (bred for their shape and conformation - Border, Fife, Gloster, Gibber Italicus, Raza Española, Berner, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Norwich, Australian Plainhead, etc.), and Song Canaries (bred for their unique and specific song patterns - Spanish Timbrado, German Roller, Waterslager (also known as "Malinois"), American Singer, Russian Singer, Persian Singer).
