Feeding Your Pet CanaryA high quality vitamin blended specifically for canaries is essential and should be available at all times. You can also provide Egg Food for protein and vitamins.Due to the high fat content,Treat Seeds, such as a Song Food, should only be provided to your pet canary 2-3 times per week and in small quantities. To supply calcium, your canary should have a Cuttlebone in it's cage at all times and you can also add Crushed Egg Shells.Canary pellets provide all the necessary nutrients your bird needs, but like people, canaries need variety in their diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential in moderation. The canary's droppings should be removed daily and the bottom of the Cage disinfected at least weekly.Use Gravel Paper already cut to size and made especially for bird cages. This is the cleanest and easiest low maintenance way to go. It will absorb spilled water and droppings.Once a month you'll want to disinfect the walls of the cage to protect your canary's health. The Water Dispenser and Feeder Bowl should be rinsed out daily and disinfected weekly. This helps protect against harmful bacteria. Cage Cleaners disinfect and dissolve hard dried-up droppings.Canaries are very clean birds. They enjoy bathing everyday, so provide your canary with a Bird Bath, especially during the hot summer months.A Pet Canary's PersonalityTypically, canaries prefer not to be handled, but rather have visual contact with people.
